A man is charged with murder after police say he killed his stepfather.
The New York City Police Department says that 68-year-old Ashford Geddes was stabbed Wednesday morning outside the Harlem Temple Corps, a community center owned by the Salvation Army where he would he hand out soup to the hungry.
"He was a good person. He cared about helping people and whatnot," said one person. "When I started here, I started working with him in the kitchen, and Mr. Geddes, he always tried to help the guys. I'm the pantry worker, so Mr. Geddes would always, if I had extra stuff, I would give it to him and he would give it to the clients and what not."
"He was like a preacher. He'd pray for the food and everything. He blesses us and all of that stuff," said another. "He helped give out the food. He serve us. He opened up the door for peoples and everything."
Police say that Geddes' stepson, 32-year-old Waldean Elliot, is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
