A man has been charged in the stabbing deaths of a mother and four children in Brooklyn.
Mingdong Chen, 25, has been charged with five counts of murder, criminal use of a weapon and assaulting an officer.
Police say Chen used a butcher knife to kill 1-year-old William and 5-year-old Kevin Zhuo, seen at left.
They were found dead late Saturday night, along with their sisters, 7-year-old Amy and 9-year-old Linda, and their mother, 37-year-old Qiao Zhen Li.
Investigators say the suspect is the cousin of the children's father, and that he has made statements implicating himself in the murders.
Relatives told police the Chinese immigrant who came to the U.S. in 2004 was acting very strange on Friday.
He apparently called a relative in China before the killings.
As for a motive, it's not exactly clear but police said the accused killer may have felt that he was having a hard time in the U.S.
"The suspect has made statements," said Philip Banks, chief of department for the NYPD. "He speaks Mandarin. He does not speak English. We have officers working with the detectives who can translate for him. But yes, he made statements alluding to his participation in this act."
Residents who live near the home at 870 57th Street in Sunset Park -- a neighborhood filled with Chinese immigrants -- tell NY1 they can't believe what happened inside the house.
"I feel very sorry for the kids," said one Sunset Park resident.
"People here are nice and friendly. I'm really shocked that this happened," said another Sunset Park resident.
Chen was arrested Saturday night and charged Sunday afternoon.
Police say he also attempted to assault an officer while in custody.
