There are more signs of rebuilding at the South Street Seaport, as the Italian restaurant Barbalu opened Friday.
The owner decided to rebuild in the same location after Hurricane Sandy pumped six feet of water into his old restaurant, Barbarini.
The kitchen was destroyed, and all of the food floated into the street.
"There is a great vibe energy with the customers that are coming back, and also with the other business owners," said owner Stefano Barbargallo. "There's no competition or jealousy between us. We all feel like we are pushing to make a rebirth of this whole block."
Work is still being done on the building, but Barbagallo said he hopes to be fully up and running by next month.
