A cyclist was struck and killed by a car Monday afternoon in the Bath Beach section of Brooklyn.

Fire officials say the accident happened at approximately noon Monday at the corner of Bay 26th Street and Benson Avenue.

The male victim, identified as Mai Zhang, 74, was declared dead at the scene.

Raymond Rooney, a neighborhood resident, told NY1 that speeding was an issue on the street where the accident occurred.

"I've been concerned about that, about this street corner, because the way people go in and out of this thoroughfare, and they go way too fast," Rooney said. "They should be going like 20 miles per hour, even 15 miles per hour, and they're going like 30, 40 miles per hour."

Police say the driver of the car was a woman in her 50s. They say she remained at the scene.
