NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap." NY1's Adam Balkin filed the following report.

80 Days

Though it’s a dream so many of us have, it requires huge amounts of cash many of us do not have—traveling around the world. Well, 80 Days lets you do it virtually through your iPad. Based on the novel by Jules Verne, this is, at its core, a choose your own adventure story. The adventure: you are part of a two man team trying to, starting in London in 1872, travel around the world in 80 days. You are actually competing against other teams and have to, based on the people you meet, the items you gather, and the information you acquire, choose which route to take. While balancing your need for sleep and money, you also have to figure out how best to get from A to B all the way to Z whether by car or steam train or boat or plane. There are 150 cities to use in your adventure and if you have an internet connection, you will actually see how others are progressing through the game via the choices they’re making. 80 Days is an iPad app for $4.99.

Or if rather than virtually traveling you prefer to spend your virtual summer virtually outdoors, check out Botanicula. This is one of those where the visuals alone might draw you in. It’s also one of those that might captivate you because without any words or text at all, you quickly learn of the story you’re driving: a tree has been infested by these spidery looking parasites. It’s your job, as a group of tree being thing-ees to, of course, save the tree. You’re presented with several challenges along the way and have to figure out which of your clan has the proper ability to solve the problem. Botanicula, which has been a computer game for a few years now, is also now an iPad app for $4.99. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
