1854...An African-American schoolteacher named Elizabeth Jennings is thrown off a Third Avenue streetcar reserved for whites. With the support of the community and the help of famed abolitionist Frederick Douglass, she sues the streetcar company and wins – leading to the desegregation of all New York City streetcars.

1999...A small plane carrying John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn and her sister Lauren disappears en route to Martha's Vineyard from New York. As a massive search for the aircraft begins, a makeshift memorial of flowers, cards and candles grows outside the Kennedys' home in TriBeCa. Four days later the worst fears are confirmed when their bodies are recovered off the coast of the Vineyard.
