The lives of one Staten Island family were collapsing all around them until they called NY1 For You. NY1’s Susan Jhun filed the following NY1 For You report. A series of ceiling collapses had Kadiatu Koromah and her family afraid to be in their own home.
“It's not safe, and it's unhealthy for me and the kids,” said Koromah.
“I'm afraid like when I'm taking a shower it might fall on me,” said Ayomide Erinosho, Koromah’s daughter.
Koromah and her three children live in an apartment at Concord Court on Staten Island, where currently they have three rooms with holes in the ceiling. Shockingly enough, over the last seven years, they've suffered through much more than ceiling collapses.
“I have the feces backing up in both bathrooms running into my son's room,” said Koromah.
Not surprisingly with feces flowing on the floor, Koromah says her kids have been sick to their stomachs. The concerned mother says she's been dealing with building management on the backup problem for years. As for the ceilings, Koromah said she contacted management before the collapses and was told someone would come, but no one did.
After the ceiling collapsed, she said management offered to move her family temporarily while they made repairs, but Koromah said she knows from past experience they won't get to the root of the problem.
“The same thing gonna happen again. It's gonna happen again. It's not gonna stop,” said Koromah.
After Koromah called NY1 For You, NY1 called Progressive Management. They agreed to move Koromah and her family permanently to another apartment.
It was a wonderful relief to the family, which is happy to have a roof over their heads that won't fall on them.
