Michael Herzenberg – General Assignment Reporter

Michael Herzenberg – General Assignment Reporter
Michael Herzenberg joined NY1 as a full-time general assignment reporter in July 2011.

In his previous work as a NY1 freelancer, he covered stories on issues ranging from the debate on marriage equality, to the reaction at the World Trade Center site following the death of Osama bin Laden, to proposed cuts to city services.

Prior to NY1, Herzenberg worked as a national correspondent for CBS News' affiliate feed service. He also spent two years behind the anchor desk and four years as a Legislative and Special Assignment Reporter in Albuquerque, NM, where he covered everything from military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay to forest fires.

He previously worked as a general assignment reporter in New Haven, Connecticut; he chased tornados in Wichita, Kansas; and he tracked the impact of hurricanes Dennis, Floyd, and Irene in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Herzenberg, an Emmy Award winner, began his TV career behind the camera as a production assistant in New Orleans and a producer in Baton Rouge. He even worked as a freelance writer at NY1 for a brief time in the 1990s, before moving on to CBS News as an associate producer.

Herzenberg graduated from Tulane University with a degree in political science.
