The man who confessed to police that he killed Etan Patz remained at Bellevue Hospital Saturday after his arraignment on second-degree murder charges.

The New York Post reports that 51-year-old Pedro Hernandez tried confessing to the murder years earlier, but was dismissed as not credible.

His sister tells the Post that detectives never followed through on Hernandez's attempts to confess.

According to the paper, police say there was no attempted confession in the past.

Sources also tell the paper that five days after Etan went missing, cops saw Hernandez at the bodega where the crime allegedly occurred.

According to the report, one of the owners said Hernandez was his brother-in-law and he was never questioned.

The 51-year-old did not enter a plea as he was arraigned over video conference from Bellevue.

Hernandez is being held at the hospital on suicide watch.

His lawyer says he is bipolar, schizophrenic and suffers from hallucinations.
